Transformation from Internal Combustion Engine to Battery Electric Vehicle (2019–present)

Supporting the transformation from conventionally powered to battery-electric light commercial vehicles – with a particular focus on chassis, load-bearing structures, vehicle weight, and validation.

Assessment of the effects of new drive concepts and battery integration on axle loads, chassis, body structure, and the complete vehicle. Development and evaluation of suitable technical solutions with particular consideration of strength, lightweight design, and weight efficiency.

The combination of extensive experience with conventional vehicle architectures and strong complete-vehicle expertise enables a holistic view of electrified vehicles – from structural integration through complete-vehicle validation.

ICE to BEV transformation

Head of Complete Vehicle Testing (2012–2019)

Responsibility for planning, managing, and conducting complete-vehicle testing of light commercial vehicles and vans.

Coordination of the validation of function, strength, and durability of the complete vehicle and its load-bearing structures under different operating, load, and environmental conditions. Evaluation of design solutions in the trade-off between strength, weight, and lightweight design.

Close collaboration between development, testing, simulation, and other functions involved, with the aim of validating the complete vehicle efficiently and robustly from development vehicle through series release.

Complete vehicle testing

Head of Chassis Testing (2003–2012)

Responsibility for testing and validating chassis systems and components – from axles and wheel suspensions to steering, springs, and damping.

Development and implementation of test strategies for different vehicle variants, load conditions, and usage profiles, as well as assessment of strength, durability, vehicle dynamics, and function.

Close integration of testing, simulation, and design with the aim of achieving robust technical solutions while optimizing development and testing effort.

Chassis testing

Head of Measurement Engineering, Chassis and Axle Development (1988–2003)

Establishment and further development of measurement engineering for chassis and axle development, including responsibility for recording and analyzing real vehicle and component loads.

Planning and execution of measurement programs in vehicles and on test benches, and preparation of the resulting data as a basis for design, calculation, simulation, and testing.

Robust knowledge of real load spectra formed an essential basis for the design of chassis components, load-bearing structures, and efficient validation programs.
